Match reports for all divisions & cup matches on 22nd March 09

Premier Division

Athletico Priestwood curbed Wokingham Utd’s chances of gaining points on the league leaders as the home side comfortably won the game 4-1. Pat Selby netted for Wokingham, but Shane Levey (3) and Daniel Wing eased Priestwood to all 3 points. Harry Levey took man of the match for his out of position role as striker this week.

Bracknell Royals could only field 10 men against Emmbrook Inn and suffered the consequences as the home side went down 6-2 at the final whistle. Zac Dimitrovski (3), Harry Scope, David Mills and Kevin Mills all scored for Emmbrook.

Green Man just edged the upper hand on Bracknell Manics as the home side held on for a 5-4 win. Lewis Frostic (2), Chris Adams and Gary Sarney all got on the score sheet for Manics in this end to end game.

League leaders William Twigg are badly suffering with injuries and had to call upon some reserve team players to fulfil the fixture against Crowthorne (The Prince) this week. Having been very competitive, the game was 0-0 going into the final 10 minutes of the match when the Twigg further extended their league points total by netting twice through Jack Davis and Gary Collins to give them a 2-0 win and 1 hand on the premier trophy.

1st Division

FC Diligent scored 2 goals per half to see off Winkfield Sports 4-0 at full time. Bill Elgar (3) and Dave Jenkins scored in this comprehensive win to see them challenge for the 1st division title.

Finchampstead Ath Res stepped up to the plate and delivered all 3 points as they saw off FC Priestwood 2-0. Matthew Whittle and Jamie Currie bagged the goals for Finch.

Keltar Old Boys were left to clean up the game against FC Wokingham as during the run of play, Wokingham had 3 players sent off for varying reasons. Keltar took full advantage and left the game with all 3 points in a 2-1 win with Chris Wyatt and Adam Withers netting the goals for the home side. Stuart Napper scored the only goal for FC Wokingham.

Sunninghill Athletic were left standing as Woodley Hammers made an impressive start when Ed Hill crossed for the Sunninghill defence to turn the ball into their own net. This lead was extended when Neil Robinson netted from close range. Sunninghill hit back with a strike from Stefan Smith, but this was not enough to curb the away side as Sam Cialis, Kevin Finlay and Neil Robinson added further goals to win the game 5-1. Special mention goes to Woodley goalkeeper Lewis Ayre for saving 2 spot kicks and potentially killing off Sunninghill’s game.

The Metropolitan were left feeling as though they could have done better against 9 man Wokingham Wanderers as the home side just managed to edge the victory 2-1. Wayne Carter and Nick Lovell scored for Metropolitan with Tom Soane netting for Wanderers. Soane put the pressure upon the home side as he came close to levelling the game twice, but the goal eluded the visitors as the final whistle blew.

2nd Division

3M and The Old Manor contested a good game of football, but neither team could break the deadlock with the result ending at 0-0. Both teams agree this to be the fairest result during the game. Alex Webber takes man of the match for The Old Manor.

AC Woodcutters were cut down to size during their game with BMW as the visitors left the game with all 3 points and a 3-1 win. Having struggled to get going in the 1st half, BMW found themselves 1 down at the break with it all to play for. The 2nd half was a quite different affair as Rory McGill, Martin Smith and Chris Bernard all scored to give BMW a good win after a dominating 2nd phase.

Ashridge Park made short work of injury plagued Bracknell Galaxy by winning the game 4-1. Jon Austin (2), Brian Millward and Dan Sharat netted for the home side with Daniel Howard getting the consolation for Galaxy.

FC Fernhill lead the charge for the title as they saw off AFC Dukes 6-0 during a game which saw 2 Dukes players retire due to injury. Sam Whiting (4), Ben Knight and Matt Lindstrom all netted for the home side with Scott Whiting taking man of the match for Fernhill.

Prince FC grabbed an all important win on the run in to the season close as they saw off Dukes Head with a superb 2nd half performance. Dukes took a 2-0 lead through a Mark Sugars brace and looked comfortable until Bernie McDonagh netted a bullet header to cut the difference before the interval. Kai Barkes, Shane Westall and a Lee Doyle volley was enough to see off Dukes Head during the 2nd half as Prince won the game 4-2.

Woodley Hammers Res piled the misery onto Finchampstead Ath A as they won the game 7-2. Although Dave Nicholson gave Finch the lead, Adam Richardson (3), Pat Townsend, Mark Howell, Ian Sellers and Dan Osborn were all on target for the home side before Nicholson could net his 2nd for Finch.

3rd Division

Bracknell Manics Res created lots of chances against Cable & Wireless, but could not finish them as the visitors left with all 3 points in a 4-1 win. Ricardo Gilda netted for Manics in the 1st half to go into the break at 1-1, but the 2nd half was one way traffic from Cable as they secured the win.

FC Muchachos de Bracknell were without a regular keeper and also felt hard done by as opponents The Bridge left the game with a 3-0 win. 2 of these goals were adjudged by the home side to have been offside, but both were left to stand as the visitors took full advantage of the decisions made.

Finchampstead Ath B found themselves in a battle with Syngenta and were on the wrong end of a 5-3 score line. Matt Panton (4) and Ronan Malacan netted for Syngenta, with Anthony Smith (2) and John Cole on target for Finch.

Queens Head took the lead against Winkfield Res as John Allen netted for the home side, only for the score to be level shortly after by a screaming left foot volley by Martin Pring. Queens Head re-took the lead as Neil Bridges capitalised on a good through ball, but again celebrations were cut short as Adam Chance latched onto a Nick Mullet cross to restore order at 2-2. Winkfield then took their chance as they were awarded a penalty late in the game, which Mark Campbell scored to win the game 3-2.

Lacklustre Inter found themselves under the cosh from a strong Royal Oak side as they strolled to a 7-0 victory. Goals came from Nick Bright (2), Richard Massingham, Andy Wells, Tom Hobbs and an own goal, with more chances going begging for Royal Oak.

Victoria Arms gave their all to fight against league leaders Keephatch Park and were rewarded as they took the lead during the 1st half. Keephatch fought back and continue their 100% record with 2 goals coming from Phil Tiernan and Dan Merritt, the winner coming in the final 2 mins. Who will rise to the challenge to take the record from Keephatch?

4th Division

AFC Beechfleet were seen off by Rides United Res as Rob Jackson and Luke Openshaw grabbed goals either side of the half to win the game 2-1. Michael Dellar grabbed the consolation for Beechfleet late in the game.

Atletico Reading lost the game against Bagshot Road Res 3-1 having missed a spot kick when the scores were level. Andrew Crawford netted the solitary goal for Atletico with Ricky Lee, Sam Williams and Josh Flynn all on target for Bagshot. Steve Major gets man of the match for his penalty save.

Axfield were unlucky not to take anything from their game against Loddon Valley Rangers as the home side were adjudged to have given away a penalty in the final 2 minutes of play to lose the fixture 2-1. Matthew Bradbrook gave Loddon the lead, with Rob Ellis netting the equaliser for Axfield. Duncan Cantwell was handed the ball to convert the spot kick to give Loddon the victory.

FC A1 Group continue to dominate the division as they saw off Red Star 5-1. 4 goals came from Adam Cornell with the 5th being an own goal from Red Star.

The Birch had to come from behind twice to see off the advances of Bracknell Badgers and eventually run our 8-4 winners. Michael Lodge gave Badgers the lead early on, leaving Simon Edward to restore order for the Birch at 1-1. Lodge soon grabbed his 2nd of the game following a defensive error leaving the Birch to again level the scores, this time through Jamie Austin, taking the score to 2-2 at the break. The Birch soon took control in the 2nd half as they strolled into a 5-2 lead with goals from Jamie Austin, Tim Davies and a Ben Marsh scuffed penalty. Badgers were reduced to 10 men after the penalty decision and had nothing to lose, so pressed the Birch back line forcing errors to take the score to 5-4 as Stuart Gillet and Ben Howkins netted from close range. Steadying the ship, The Birch then extended their lead to 8-4 as Simon Edwards 2nd and 2 more from Jamie Austin was enough to secure all 3 points.

AFC Farmer put in a good 1st half performance against Warfield Utd but could not follow this up in the 2nd half when they conceded the killer blows. Farmer had 2 good early chances, but this was shut out by keeper Daniel Edwards. James Tickner gave Warfield the lead in the 1st half, before James Prince and man of the match Mark Henderson (2) rounded off the scoring, giving Warfield a 4-0 victory. The score could have been higher had the 2 ‘offside’ goals been aloud to stand.

Bracknell Sunday Football League Senior Cup – Semi Final

Winkfield ended Finchampstead Ath chances of reaching a final as the home side took their opportunities to win the game 2-0. It what was a very keenly contested cup game, Winkfield took the upper hand as Sam Handley netted to give a much deserved lead. Having not troubled the home keeper, Finch soon found themselves 2-0 down with little time to play as Handley grabbed his second of the game to send Winkfield through to the final to meet either Bagshot Road or Bracknell Manics.
