Bracknell Town & District Sunday Football League
Match reports for all divisions & cup matches on 1st February 09

Premier Division

Athletico Priestwood took the lead within 20 minutes against Green Man thanks to a strike from Darren Barton-Taylor, but this lead could not be held as Green Man struck twice in quick succession before the break through Darren Kettle and Danny Russell. Green Man added to the tally in the 2nd half as James McClurg netted from a solo effort to round the game up at 3-1.

Bracknell Manics and Winkfield battled well but it was Winkfield whom took all the points after netting 2 goals from Lee Nevard and 2 from Dan Sleet. Gary Farmer netted a solitary goal for Manics in a game where the score did not reflect the play.

Crowthorne had to come from a goal down against Bracknell Royals to pick up the points at Morgan Rec. Dale Clark equalised for the home side prior to the interval, with Paul Graham wrapping up the game at 2-1 in the 2nd.

Emmbrook Inn started slowly and were punished as Wokingham United striker Pat Selby netted within 5 mins to take the lead. After this, Emmbrook appeared to take a lot of possession but they could not finish the chances put in front of them. Late on in the game Emmbrook were awarded a penalty, which Zac Dimitrovski took, only for Wokingham keeper Russell Platt to deny the equaliser and make sure his side left with full points and a 1-0 win.

1st Division

FC Priestwood took an early 2 goal lead through Ben Brown (2) against Wokingham Wanderers, only to be pegged back to 3-2 down after Anthony Prior (2) and Chris Atkins had scored for Wanderers. Anthony Prior hit the target with a well struck top corner goal after a good solo run. Into the 2nd half and Priestwood turned up the gas and didn’t show any mercy as they netted 4 further goals via Nick Bagshaw and Alex Eastman (3) to wrap up a seemingly comfortable 6-3 win.

Rides United and The Metropolitan both had chances in this difficult game, but neither side could find the net to challenge for full points leaving the final score at 0-0.

Winkfield Sports dominated the game from the off against Sunninghill Athletic and scored early on through Adam Sharp to take the lead. Unfortunately for Sports, they squandered several opportunities to extend the lead before the interval. After 60 mins Winkfield were reduced to ten men through injury and lost their way a little. Sunninghill took full advantage and struck 2 goals in quick succession through Pasquale Ruocco to steal the win with a 2-1 score.

Woodley Hammers strolled away with a convincing 7-3 win over Finchampstead Athletic Sun Res. Hammers took a 5-0 lead after only 20 minutes as Neil Robinson, Kevin Finlay (2) and Sam Cialis (2) all hit the back of the net. The dominance was clear as Woodley netted a further 2 strikes through Richard Wallace and Graham Dew, with Finch only managing 2 strikes of their own via Matt Barclay before a much needed rest. The 2nd half was a quite different affair as Finch struck through Michael Starnes, but could not further chip away at the scoreline from the 1st half. Final Score 7-3 to Woodley.

2nd Division

With only 2 games played in this division a whole number of goals were accounted for. AFC Dukes played host to AC Woodcutters and the home side started very sloppy as they conceded twice before getting started. Chris Bolt and Adrian Lewis accounted for the Woodcutters goals. Having weathered the storm, Dukes piled forward looking for a goal. Instead, they were met with the Woodcutters keeper handling outside the box and seeing red for his effort. From the resultant free kick Steve Ferguson pulled back a goal as his strike sailed into the back of the net. Woodcutters seemed to liven up after this and scored twice more as Bolt completed his hat trick to put the score to 4-1. AFC Dukes then had a fine spell of play themselves whilst pulling back 2 goals via Dan Lancaster and Adam Clark. Pushing for the equaliser, Dukes were caught on the break and suffered as Richard Doherty put the game out of touch with a final score of 5-3.

Finchampstead Ath Sun A hosted Dukes Head and both teams battled well in the 1st half with Dukes taking the advantage to break with a score of 2-1. Dukes Head then unleashed in the 2nd and fired home a further 4 strikes to win the game 6-1. Adam Calaghan scored for Finch, with Gary Porter (3), Stuart Halliday, Mark Chivers and Lee Thomas all finding the net for Dukes.

3rd Division

Cable & Wireless had to come from a goal down to challenge FC Muchachos de Bracknell as the visitors took the lead with a Daniel Russell strike from outside the 18 yard box. Having had several chances to extend their lead, Muchachos soon found themselves under pressure as errors allowed Craig Murphy to net a brace and take Cable into a 2-1 lead. Steven Heard extended Cable’s lead early in the 2nd half to put the game out of reach. FC Muchachos midfielder Daniel Russell couldn’t continue after a questionable challenge left him injured for the remainder of the match. Final score 3-1 to Cable & Wireless.

Finchampstead Ath Sun B added a further 3 points to their tally with a single goal from Phil Hemmings against Bracknell Manics Res leaving the home side with a 1-0 win.

Queens Head got over their nervous start against The Bridge as they took the lead on 20 minutes through a Ross Hearn header. Jamie Tucker levelled the score for The Bridge before Kieron Painter and John Allen netted for Queens Head to seal a 3-1 victory. This win would have been further added to had their penalty been converted in the 1st half, but it was shot wide of the mark. Paul Collins takes man of the match for The Bridge.

Matt Harrington opened the scoring after 10 minutes for Inter as they faced Syngenta at Jealotts Hill. Dave Eastman levelled the scores for Syngenta, only to fall behind again to a Alan Brown strike. Ronan Malacan levelled the score for Syngenta for the 2nd time as the score swayed to and fro. Wayne Sandy gave Inter the lead before the break to have a 3-2 score to play for in the 2nd. David Bird opened fire on the Syngenta keeper and netted a hat trick for Inter to take the score to 6-2 before Dave Eastern replied with a solo effort for Syngenta to leave a final score of 6-3 to Inter.

Winkfield Res took a commanding 2-0 lead after 20 mins as Mark Campbell and Lee Scott hit the back of the Victoria Arms net before the break. The 2nd half was a complete change as Winkfield took the foot off the gas leaving Victoria Arms to net twice via Steven Wheels and Nick Friend to see the final score end at 2-2 and take a share of the points on offer.

4th Division

AFC Farmer played some decent football in the 1st half but could not break the Bagshot Road Res back line to score. Bagshot took heart from this and scored twice through Tom Williams to take a 2-0 lead to the break. Steve Jones and Peter Edwards netted for Farmer following the interval, but Sam Williams stole the show with a well struck hat trick to give Bagshot a much deserved 5-2 victory leaving them climbing the table.

Bracknell Badgers and Warfield United had to scrap out a game for the entire 90 minutes with Warfield United taking the 3 points in a 1-0 win. After battling the conditions, Jack Tickner hit the back off the Badgers net to ease the pressure. Special mentions go to Alex Mellor whom had a good game and Man of the Match Daniel Edwards between the sticks.

The Birch hosted Rides United Res at Cantley Park, and it was the visitors whom took the lead after Dan Leyton –Smith made short work of a goalkeeper hash. Having swept the error away The Birch then upped their efforts as they pressed against the wind to find an equaliser. Rides came close on a couple of occasions with Steve Bruce tipping 2 efforts over the bar to keep the score at 1-0. Pushing forward, The Birch capitalised on some good work to level the score as Simon Edwards headed home from 6 yards. After a further 10 minutes The Birch then took the lead as Richard Anscomb struck a thunderbolt shot from 30 yards into the top of the net. Rides then pushed on looking for a goal with the closest effort from a corner being cleared from the line by full back Tony Davies. Into the 2nd half and honours were even as neither team could find the net, although the half way line strike from Daniel Barham whistled past the wrong side of the post, and Stuart Billinghams header just cleared the cross bar. Rides then pushed at The Birch with 10 minutes remaining and came close to a last minute equaliser after Mark Smith put the ball into the box leaving the defence to scramble a clearance and hear the final whistle blow. Final score 2-1 to The Birch.

Berks & Bucks Junior Trophy 4th & 5th Round

AFC Beechfleet outplayed Bethel United to continue into round 5 with a 1-0 victory. Johnny Clifford struck the solo goal of the game.

Royal Oak will meet Beechfleet in the 5th round as they saw off opponents Arborfield with a 3-1 victory. Arborfield took the lead only for Mark Saunders to equalise from the resultant kick off. Tom Hobbs fired a brace to send the Bracknell side through in what was 1 way traffic in the 2nd half.

FC A1 Group found themselves in a battle against Warwick Arms from Reading in the 5th round and unfortunately exited the competition after spot kicks didn’t go their way. Sam Stroud set the score at 1-1 for FC A1 at full time, with Steve Bland netting in extra time for a 2-2 result. The game had to be completed on the day so spot kicks were taken and FC A1 exit the competition, losing 4-3 in the end.
