About The Alan Matthias Challenge Trophy

Bracknell Town Football Club hosted The Alan Matthias Challenge Trophy - a fundraising match on behalf of Bracknell Town & District Sunday Football League player Alan Matthias and in aid of Sue Ryder Care.

Alan has been playing in the Bracknell Sunday League since the ages of 16, and is a huge Newcastle United fan. He currently plays for Bagshot Road F.C. on Sundays, and was recently tragically diagnosed with testicular cancer. The Bracknell Town & District Sunday Football League has arranged this match - which saw Alan host the match between Bagshot Road F.C. & Bracknell Manics F.C.

In his years playing for Bracknell Manics F.C., Alan played a significant part in the clubs success including Division Championship Trophies and Sportsmanship Awards. Ex-players as well as existing players of Bracknell Manics F.C. arranged to meet and play once again in Alan's honour. His time with Bagshot Road F.C. is fairly new - Since joining, Alan scored against his former club Bracknell Manics F.C. in a league match played recently this season.

Lots for auction were also provided from Reading FC, The Hoosiers, Razorlight (Thanks to Barnaby Watson for these two lots) and also ex Chelsea player Steve Finnieston making the day a success with around 300 people in attendance.

1st Half :-

Bracknell Manics kicked off in what was to be a fast paced end to end game which was competitive but also good natured. Manics had the 1st strike of the game with a one on one against Bagshot keeper Steven Bruce, with the keeper coming off best this time round. Bagshot then had some chances of their own with Rick Shaw coming close after attempting a lob on the Manics keeper. The game continued with chances coming thick and fast between the 2 sides. Manics no 7 attempted a overhead kick which came close to the Bagshot goal only narrowly missing. Dan Chambers then had a 2 good strikes on the Manics goal, the first going over the bar by a foot and the 2nd just wide of the post. Dan Lewendon then put Bagshot ahead as he slotted past the Manics keeper from a Dan Chambers cross. Manics replied shortly after as Gary Sarney got on the end of a cross to level the scores at 1-1 before the half.

2nd Half :-

It was much of the same in the 2nd half as both sides pressed the other looking for a winner. Attempts were made on the Bagshot goal by no 12, but the ball was scrambled away. On 60 minutes, Bagshot took the lead as a corner was swung into the box and not dealt with by the Manics keeper as a mix up led to an own goal. Manics had several attempts on goal following this, but could not make anything work for them leaving Bagshot to take the game 2-1.
