Match reports for all divisions on 19th October 08

Premier Division

The Bracknell Manics were out of the block quickly this week as they scored within seconds to stun opponents Bracknell Royals. Although the game then went on to even itself out, the Manics took their chances and finished the match 6-2 winners with Ashley Deutrom (4), Gavin Baker and Lee Blackman netting the goals.

Finchampstead Athletic battled hard and deserved their point against Green Man as the teams finished up with a 3-3 draw. Michael Brewster netted a brace to put Green Man 2 up, but Steven Clarke and Harry Swabey drew the scores level. Matt Williams put the Green Man ahead again with 2 other goals being adjudged offside. After seeing 2 Green Man players being sent off, Finch pushed hard and were awarded a free kick outside the area upon which Harry Swabey netted to tie the game and share the points.

William Twigg continue up the table, this week having disposed of Athletico Priestwood 4-2. In an end to end game between possibly the top 2 teams in the league, it was Twigg whom scored the all important goals in the final 15 minutes to take all 3 points. Nick Edmonds, Gary Sergeant (2) and Danny Oliphant netted for Twigg whilst man of the match Charlie Everson got both for Priestwood.

Winkfield took advantage of a depleted Emmbrook Inn and put 8 goals past them without reply. Andy Parslow (2), Sam Handley (2), Lee Nevard (3) and Brad Clark all notching goals for the home side.

Wokingham United shut out a poor performing Bagshot Road with a comfortable 6-0 win. Pat Selby (4), Darren Thorne and Lee Thompson the scorers.

Priestwood took the lead through Ryan Webb and Keith Honey, only to see these goals cancelled out in the final 15 minutes by Richard Bland and Matt Davis to see the score finish 2-2.

FC Wokingham made life difficult as they came from behind 3 times to eventually outscore opponents Sunninghill Athletic 5-4. Sean King, Justin Dorey, Darren Hall, Kylo Atkinson and Adam Porter all netted for Wokingham, with Kevin May (3) and Tony May accounting for the Sunninghill tally.

AFC Dukes scored through Ricky Keeley and Scott Ridllesworth but were not sharp enough in front of goal to account for any more.

That they did and came away with all 3 points.

3rd Division

Cable continued their strong start to the season with a confident display against Finchampstead Sunday B. Each side saw an even level of possession in the opening minutes of the encounter as both teams struggled to impose any dominance on the game. Man of the match Mike Darby opened the scoring mid-way through the second half with a superb individual effort, cutting in from the left, turning his man and finishing with aplomb into the bottom right corner. The lead was extended shortly before half-time as Keith Halifax was felled in the area, and stepped up to convert the resultant penalty. The game was finally put to bed after the break, as Mike Darby ran onto an excellent through ball from Andy King to produce an equally good finish. Cable continued to dominate and a combination of poor finishing and excellent defending kept the deficit at three. Steve Close produced an excellent point-blank save late on to deny the visitors a consolation goal. Final score, Cable & Wireless 3, Finchampstead Sunday B 0.
