Premier
League
Being
the 1st game of the new season, not as many goals were expected
to be seen so early on, but this was certainly the case as Bagshot
Road took on premier league new boys Emmbrook Inn. Bagshot Road
Took what seemed to be a commanding 6-2 lead as Brian Murphy (2),
Dan Lewendon (2), Rik Shaw and Alan Matthias all got themselves
on the score sheet. This lead was not added to though as Emmbrook’s
veteran striker Zac Dimitrovski netted 5 goals himself, 2 of which
being penalties, and Sean Gavadan also scored to tie the game up
at 6-6 and complete a superb comeback. Emmbrook showed a lot of
character to keep their heads up and in the game when all looked
to be lost. A special mention and a wish of luck goes to Alan Matthias
of Bagshot Road, whom starts chemotherapy treatment this week for
cancer.
Bracknell
Manics and Wokingham United certainly kept up the high scoring as
both sides seemed to profit in front of goal. Wokingham came out
on top as victors after out gunning the Manics 7-4 with Darren Thorne
(3), Pat Selby (2) and Ian Leakin (2) scoring the goals. Manics
goals were scored by Chris Hollis, Matt Rain, Ian Nelson and Gavin
Baker.
Bracknell
Royals started their season with a tough opener against last seasons
runners up Green Man and found the going tough. Having had most
of the possession, Green Man were soon reduced to 10 men as defender
Dave Matthews had to retire early having sustained an injury and
with no subs they had to battle on. Green Man debutant Craig Gurney
turned up the heat on the Royals as he bagged a hat trick in his
first match for the club. Danny Russell also got off the mark as
Green Man ran home 4-2 winners. Man of the match for Green Man was
Jack Morris.
William
Twigg Albion and Finchampstead Ath had a share of the spoils as
the game ended 1-1. Harry Swabey bagged the all important goal for
the visitors, but they could have nicked the win had a disallowed
goal stood. Special mention to Kieron Brown whom reffed the game
superbly.
1st
Division
Keltar Old Boys left it late in the game to deliver a killer blow
as they struck deep into the final seconds of the match to grab
a 5-4 victory against Sunninghill Athletic. With both teams certain
of a point a piece, Keltar attacked one last time and were rewarded
for their hard work in the match. Chris White (2), Stuart Clapton,
Martin Bickley and Dan Callis all scored for Keltar.
Rides United started their new league campaign with a physical game
against FC Wokingham. In what was a very entertaining match, FC
Wokingham came out on top after the 90 as they took away a 4-2 win.
Royston Atkinson and a Sean King penalty opened the scoring for
FC Wokingham but Rides were level before the half as Ashley Partridge
and a 35yard belter from Steven Googly wiped out the advantage.
FC Wokingham carved a few more chances in the 2nd half and Vinnie
Bond restored the lead as he chipped the Rides keeper from close
range. Sean King grabbed his 2nd of the match and FC Wokingham’s
4th as he fired a long range shot into the back of the net to secure
all 3 points for the visitors.
The
newly named Metropolitan kicked off their season with an impressive
showing against FC Priestwood, running out 5-1 winners. Debutant
Liam Want scored a hat-trick and Neil Hanger scored the other two.
The game could of been a different story if the Met's keeper Ashley
withers hadn't saved a penalty when the score was tied at 1 –
1 after Gareth Brant netted for Priestwood.
Woodley
Hammers stormed into a commanding 1st half lead of 5-1 against Wokingham
Wanderers as Neal Robinson grabbed 4 goals with Sam Cialis getting
the 5th. Into the 2nd half and Woodley took the foot off the gas
and allowed Wanderers to progress up the pitch and net 2 more goals
to bring the score to 5-3 with the aid of Tom Soane, Anthony Prior
and Phil Soane. Woodley needed this wake up call and made sure of
the 3 points as Rob Timbers struck for Woodley taking the score
to 6-3 which is where it stayed until the final whistle.
2nd
Division
Ashridge Park and 3M cancelled each other out in a good battle as
the final score of the match came to 1-1. 3M took the lead as Adam
Noble latched onto a neat through ball from midfield and netted
from close range. Ashridge Park replied in quick fashion as Scott
Smith netted after only 4 minutes from conceding. Ashridge also
hit the bar, but the draw was the fair result based on the play
of the game.
AC
Woodcutters took the lead against Finchampstead Ath Sun A as Edward
Watts struck home. Finch fought back and were rewarded as James
Cockerel netted a brace to give Finch a 2-1 lead at the interval.
Woodcutters stepped up the pace early in the 2nd half and Edward
Watts reversed the score line as he completed his hat trick to take
a 3-2 lead for the home side. Finch did give all they had as the
onslaught commenced with 10 minutes remaining, but could not force
an opening. Final score 3-2 to AC Woodcutters with Edward Watts
grabbing the man of the match award.
Dukes
Head led twice in their fixture against Woodley Hammers Res but
could not hold the lead as they were pegged back both times to end
with a final score of 2-2. Gary Porter opened the scoring for Dukes
after 25 mins, only for Pat Townsend to level things up shortly
after. James Alexander then re-opened this lead, which would have
stayed, had Chris Jex not have scored a stunner for Woodley to tie
things up at 2-2. Prince were frustrated on opening day as AFC Dukes
bagged a much deserved win with a score of 3-0. Steve Ferguson and
Ricky Keogh both getting on the score sheet for the visitors.
3rd
Division
Cable
& Wireless went close on several occasions and hit the bar through
Tim Lynam but could not get off the mark as they were outclassed
by a strong Keephatch Park performance. Liam Davies netted twice,
one being a penalty, with Chris Clarke also getting a brace and
Dave Merrit rounding off the scoring in a 5-0 victory.
Queens
Head took an early lead through Andy Light as they started brightly
against opponents Bracknell Manics Res. This lead was to be short
lived though as the home side conceded a penalty of which Brian
Judge converted to level the scores. The Manics played some good
football, passing the ball well and soon found an opening early
in the 2nd half as Joel Curran gave the Manics the lead. Queens
Head did not give up though and were rewarded for their efforts
as Karl Ellaway lobbed the Manics keeper from 30yards to force an
equaliser to 2-2 which is how it ended.
Syngenta
found the opening day of the season a bit of a downer as they went
down 3-0 to Finchampstead Ath Sun B. With 30 mins gone Finch broke
the back line and shot on goal forcing a parry from the Syngenta
keeper, this rebound fell into the path of Richard Thorpe whom duly
obliged in opening the scoring for Finch. Once this goal was netted
a further 2 strikes came in quick succession as James Hemmings scored
and Phil Hemmings found the back of the net directly from a corner
taking the score to 3-0.
Victoria
Arms and The Bridge played out the only goal less draw of the day
as neither team could latch onto a goal.
4th Division
Bagshot Road Res soon had Warfield Utd on the back foot as they
stormed into a 4-0 lead within 20 mins as Chris Willis bagged a
hat trick and John Hindley bundled the ball into the net. Warfield
re-shaped in the 2nd half and netted through Matt Jones but could
not claw back the score any further as Sam Williams finished the
scoring for Bagshot to take the final score to 5-1.
FC
A1 Group and AFC Beechfleet struck many times in this opening match,
but it was FC A1 Group that came out on top 5-3 at the final whistle.
Liam Sherry, Matthew Acres and Nathan Lewis all scoring for Beechfleet.
New
boys Loddon Valley Rangers imposed themselves on the Sunday league
as they saw off Rides Utd Res 5-1 after conceding the opening goal.
Ben Leyton Smith scored for Rides Res direct from a corner, only
for Loddon Valley to re-group and start the scoring. Chris Allen,
Jake Wheeler, Duncan Campwell and a brace from Craig Lydon was enough
for the home side to take all 3 points.
Red
Star and AFC Farmer both lost men as Red Star were reduced to 9
and AFC Farmer reduced to 10 through out the passage of play. Farmer
did get a lot of possession but could not make this count as Red
Star battled on to the victory in a 3-2 win. Ben Gregor, Peter Socolovsky
and Kristov Blu netted for the home side with Damien O’Leary
and a Kirk Hedges penalty accounting for the goals for AFC Farmer.
The
Birch overcame some pre season controversy within the squad to run
out 3-2 victors against a hard battling Athletico Reading. With
the majority of early possession, The Birch soon carved open the
Athletico defence with a whipping cross from Danny Jones which was
met in the box by the diving header of Charlie Turner to open the
scoring. Athletico Reading struck back within 5 minutes as they
played the offside trap well for Andrew Nealan to level things up.
Soon after Athletico had the ball in the back of the Birch net,
only for the goal to be ruled out for a hand ball in the run up
to the strike. The Birch bounced back with a second headed goal,
again from Charlie ‘Flipper’ Turner as he netted from
close range to restore the advantage. Just before the half, The
Birch grabbed a 3rd as Steve Jones side footed into an open net
after Jimmy Austin played through a quality pass which split the
defence. Into the 2nd half and Athletico piled the pressure onto
the Birch back line, getting through on a few occasions and testing
the on rushing keeper Steve Bruce. Mark Tribton pulled one back
for the visitors but they could not find an equaliser before the
final whistle as The Birch took all 3 points in a 3-2 victory. William
Twigg Res and Bracknell Badgers cancelled each other out as the
final score came to 1-1 with Jamie O Donald netting for the visitors.
